John Joseph Blaney

In Memory of John Joseph Blaney of Westhampton Beach, NY

June 3, 1947—February 12, 2022

John Blaney, 74, of Westhampton Beach, died peacefully at home on February 12th with his beloved partner Ellen Worth by his side.  John was born in Woodhaven, Queens, grew up in Jamaica, Queens, and moved to Westhampton Beach after graduating from St. John's University.  He was drawn to the natural beauty of Westhampton Beach as a young man.  He loved learning about the area’s history, and was ever a fixture of the town’s vibrant social life.  A visionary and accomplished real estate developer, he was active on Long Island’s East End for nearly fifty years, and became a successful appraiser in the latter part of his career.  He established Blaney Realty in the 1970s and maintained an office on Main Street for many decades.  He was co-owner of the nightclub Scarletts, a discothèque on Mill Road in the 1970s and ‘80s.  He was a member of the Southampton Town Planning Board for 2000 through 2020 and a member of the Westhampton Rotary Club from 1993 until his passing.

Food Pantry Fundraiser Raffle

The Westhampton Food Pantry is an outreach program supported by many of the churches in the Westhampton area, providing food, toiletries, and paper goods to local families in need.   It’s not only food help.  The Food Pantry has provided rent assistance, heating assistance, car repair funds, and more.  The Westhampton Rotary Club, Kiwanis Club of Greater Westhampton, and the Father Slomski Council of the Knights of Columbus, partner to hold a Food Pantry Fund Raiser Dinner each year to help support the program.
In light of on-going concerns with large indoor gatherings, our committee is holding a 50/50 cash raffle this year.  The committee’s hope is that you will support the fundraiser with $100 donation for three (3) raffle entries, but any donation is gratefully accepted.  With 300 tickets printed, that’s a great prize!   The drawing will be held on October 30th and the winner will be contacted immediately.
Tickets have been mailed and are available at Flowers by Rori, Rubio Premier Motors, and Lynne's Cards & Gifts

Share Your Love with WH Rotary

‘Share Your Love’ with the Westhampton Rotary Club this February
A special appeal from Jim Hulme, President
February…the month of Valentine’s Day and love and passion.  It’s a special time to let loved ones and friends know that they hold a special place in our hearts.  As the President of the Westhampton Rotary Club, I can tell you that our small-but-mighty service club, chartered in 1953, is near and dear to my own heart.  Our hard-working board members and fellow Rotarians are passionate about raising money to help people.  They truly embody Rotary’s motto: “Service Above Self.”  And now we’re asking for YOUR help.
Like many non-profit organizations, our club’s fundraising efforts have been greatly hampered since the start of COVID-19 last spring. This year we were not able to hold our annual Spaghetti Dinner, always a much-loved Rotary fundraiser in the Westhampton community. Additional fundraising events this year are also in limbo.  The Westhampton Rotary Club uses the money we raise to give scholarships to graduating high school seniors and to support such local, national, and international organizations as Camp-Pa-Qua-Tuck, the Westhampton Beach Performing Arts Center, Boy Scout Troop 62, East End Hospice, the Quogue Wildlife Refuge, the Westhampton Cultural Consortium, the Hope for Children Fund, the Salvation Army, and the Westhampton High School’s Robotics, Virtual Enterprise and Interact Clubs.
During the month of February, will you help us by donating to the Westhampton Rotary Club so our efforts can continue?  ANY donation, big or small, is greatly appreciated but for every $50 you donate we will enter your name in our “Share Your Love” raffle. (A $50 donation gets one chance at winning one of our great raffle prizes below, $100 donation gets two chances, etc.)  Envelopes must be post-marked by 2/28/21 and winners will be selected on 3/5/21.
  • $75 Gift Certificate to Roses & Rice Flower Shop
  • A ‘Wine, Dine and Relax” Basket of Romantic Treats
  • $100 Gift Certificate to the Patio
  • $100 Gift Certificate to the Margarita Grill
  • $100 Gift Certificate to the Stone Creek Inn
  • $100 Gift Certificate to Flora Restaurant
  • A Silver Heart Necklace and Pair of Silver Earrings
Please send your donation to:
WHR Charities, Inc.
P.O. Box 124
Westhampton, NY 11977
Thank you.  I hope we’ll be calling YOU on March 5th to let you know that you won one of our great prizes!
Jim Hulme
P.S. Please complete the form (listed in Document Download to the left) and return it with your donation so we know how to contact you if you win.

Our "Second Helping" fundraiser

As a result of the Covid pandemic closures, our Rotary club, like most other groups,  was unable to meet for several weeks.  Although we met virtually, there were no meals to be shared.   Members came  up with the idea to donate the money that would have been spent on their meals to the club.   It was then decided the funds would  be used in the local community.   We named our action “Second Helping” to reflect our paying forward to the community.
On Wednesday, August 26th, members of the Westhampton Rotary Club delivered salads and heroes to the 125 “heroes” working at the Westhampton Care Center.  Many thanks to Hurricane Deli for giving Rotary a generous discount.
The Club also brought dinner to the hard-working members of the Westhampton Ambulance crew during their monthly meeting earlier in the week.

Tom Kerr

It is with deepest sadness we share the news of Tom Kerr's passing. He served as Club President twice, District Governor, on the District Youth Exchange Committee and performed countless small jobs in service to Rotary and his community. May the family be comforted and held in all our prayers.

A Rotarian Is....

story thumbnail
A Rotarian is a person who: digs wells they will never drink from – vaccinates children they will never meet – restores eyesight for those they will never see – builds houses they will never live in –  educates children they will never know – plants trees they will never sit under – makes crawlers into walkers halfway around the world – knows real happiness as Albert Einstein said, “happiness can only be found by helping others."
